Blast Radius is on Booktrust's Books We Like list for Feb 2015.

They said:

Blast Radius is Scottish writer RL McKinney's first novel. It's a ghost story, a tentative romance, and a portrait of a man trying to put his life back together; and it's a beautiful, sad and urgent book about modern-day Britain, about what war does to people, about hope and hopelessness, about love and acceptance, and about learning to let go.

The Army Rumour Review Service, a site run by and for British servicemen, gave Blast Radius five out of five mushroom heads (great honour indeed!). They said: The acid test of any book is whether the first page grabs you. I picked this up and found myself into the third chapter before I realised it. The prose is light, the descriptions evocative and the dialogue convincing and the plot beguiling. While the story inevitably involves some disturbing elements the book is a joy to read

This book got me from the word go. I couldn't wait to see what happened next for Sean. I loved following his story through places that are familiar and finding out what he does next. It gives real insight into what a war hero can go through upon their return to "normality" and the difficulties they can face.
I absolutely could not put it down.
